With 2017 drawing to a close, we thought it would make sense to look back at some of the year’s biggest celebrity beauty trends. Read on if you want to learn how to keep your teeth as white as Simon Cowell’s, your figure slim and your lips as plump as Kim Kardashian’s!
- Get your celebrity smile with coconut oil
One of this year’s standout trends has to be oil pulling. Backed by celebrities such as Emma Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, this trend has taken off thanks to Instagram posts, sponsorship deals and celebrities telling it like it is in magazine interviews.
Oil pulling is simple – buy coconut, sesame or botanical oils from a website like The Big Fruit and put a teaspoon of it in your mouth. You should then swish the liquid around your mouth for 10 to 20 minutes to allow bacteria to mix with the oil, and then spit it out. Repeating this process over a few weeks can lead to better breath, whiter teeth and tighter gums.
- Lose weight on the baby food diet
Model and designer Camila Alves reignited the baby food diet trend this year after revealing all in an interview with Delish. Speaking to a journalist, Camila said that she “did a cleanse, and there were a lot of puréed meals, and my body just agreed with it”. Camila believes that switching to puréed foods (in other words, a baby food diet) helped to reduce swelling in her stomach and gave her digestive system a “break”. However, she did say that it was “unrealistic” to eat only puréed meals, so she ate a combination of puréed and solid meals.
- Cinnamon and cayenne pepper lip plumping
If you want plumper, fuller lips without going under the knife or getting Botox injections (after all, who wants a needle in their lip!?), then consider a DIY lip plumper that’s used by some of the world’s biggest celebrities. Kylie Jenner’s 2015 luscious lips challenge caused some girls’ lips to bleed and burst, but this trend is a little less risky.
To make your own lip plumping balm, you’ll need to visit your local supermarket. Get a heat-resistant mixing bowl and buy a cheap lip balm, and then mix in half a tablespoon or cinnamon oil and half a tablespoon of clove oil. Finally, add some cayenne pepper powder and melt the ingredients together, before applying the treatment to your lips. Over time, this process will make your lips appear bigger and fuller, but the cayenne pepper may cause your lips to become dry, so follow this process with some moisturising lip balm.
There you have it – three of the biggest celebrity beauty trends of 2017, and the tools and ingredients you need to try them out for yourself. Remember to always consult a doctor before trying a new diet, and when creating your own “do it yourself” beauty products, check that you’re not allergic to any of the ingredients. Other than that, have fun!
